Fishburn W.M.C Bowls Club
The club was formed c1958 and currently has about forty members generously sponsored by Fishburn W.M.C., who play in four local bowls leagues. The south west durham league each Monday evening, Cleveland & Teesside league each Wednesday evening, Durham & district Vets league each Thursday afternoon (minimum age 60 years old) , and the Durham and district league on a Saturday afternoon. The club is very privileged to have four E.B.A. instructors, who will gladly assist anyone who would like to learn to play flat green bowls.
The club organise an annual charity day, held on August bank holiday Sunday in memory of Bill Fulton, who was the treasurer until he died. members nominate one or two charities at the spring meeting, and with generous support from the local community and businesses raise funds through donations and raffle prizes. Over the last four years over £3,000 has been raised for cancer research ,the stroke association, the colitis and crohns disease association (Durham and Wearside).This years nominated charitable organisations are the Butterwick childrens hospice and south Durham mental health care (macmillan nurses).
